The Blank Deck Debate
A lot of big skateboard companies got upset at the sale of blank decks. They say it hurts the pros and skateboarding all together. The way we feel about it is that skateboard companies hurt their own pros. Ask any pro skater that is no longer pro anymore. The skateboard industry thrives on a model of using and abusing young talent. It's true though, running a board company is no easy task. The margins are high and there are billions of similar products out there to compete against. The only thing that separates one board company from the next is quality and brand image.
The reality of the situation is that blank skateboards have always been around and will always be around. It's just the nature of the market. So what is the solution for skateboard companies? Provide added value in your products. Strive to make better boards, include extra products with your boards. Give skaters a good value and a good product and you should have little to worry about.
