Matt Bublitz:
I remember the day Matt came into the shop probably in 2003. He was this little kid, and he goes "Can I get sponsored?". So we looked at his footage on his Hi-8mm camera.
There was a bunch of skating in front of his house, nothing spectacular. Just some kickflips over a trash can via a kicker ramp and some low portable hand rail
footage. Then, to finish off the sponsor me tape, he had launched a huge kickflip off the centennial park 11 and a board slide on the same rail. So we sponsored him.
Then came the real shocker a year later. Matt called me up while I was working and blurted out "I boardslid El Toro". I was like "what the fuck? - you're joking". Sure enough
later that day I saw the footage. This is the real kicker: Matt's filmer at the time was his dad, a fire chief. His dad was taking him all around Southern California to get hammers
from all the big spots. Their last stop was El Toro. Matt goes for his first attempt and slides it all the way down, but couldn't come off the rail quick enough for the landing. He
slams, gets up like nothing happened, brushes off his pants and goes right back to try it again. Meanwhile some person of enforcement comes over to kick them out. "You can't skate here".
So his dad, plays dumb and acts like he doesn't know what she is talking about, while he motions to Matt to go try it again. So in the middle of getting kicked out, Matt rushes into the
next board slide and lands it! They pack their shit and walk away without getting a ticket. Matt and his dad are probably one of the best spot assassin teams I know of. Cold hearted, slick, and just plain deadly.
